Congratulations to Ruth Katongo, the first Bakashana Graduate to be accepted into the University of Zambia! Bakashana is proud to have helped enable Ruthie to complete her secondary education, and to open limitless opportunities for her in the future. She is now looking forward to studying Library Science at the University of Zambia with full bursary from the Government of Zambia. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Ruth, as she will now come full circle to serve as a mentor, advisor, and even future sponsor of Bakashana Grantees.

Ruth was a student at Kapongolo Basic School where our Board Chairperson, Mr. Chileshe was serving as Head Teacher when he noticed that she stood out as a top performer. Upon completion of grade 9, Ruth’s opportunity to pursue a high school education were slim, but thanks to the support she received from Bakashana she enjoyed learning at Kasama Girls School
Ruth is a joker and very animated. During our workshop together we could always count on Ruth for comic relief and she actively participated in all of our activities. Ruth has recently graduated with excellent marks, and has been accepted into three college programs. Now that she has been accepted with full bursary to the University of Zambia, we look forward to watching Ruth grow and blossom as a person. We promise to keep this page updated with Ruth’s progress!
